GERMAN WWI BATTLE DAMAGED TRENCH HELMET WITH REMAINING MUD.
A very collectable example of the iconic M16 German trench helmet still with its original mud and battle damaged to the outer shell, shell stamped E.T. 64, with at least 50% of its original apple green finish remaining and areas of hardened mud to the exterior shell, to the lower left hand side of the helmet as it is viewed just adjacent to the exterior rivet that holds the strap post in place the shell has been pierced by shrapnel, to the interior the complete M-16 leather liner is intact with its original drawstring but minus its inner horsehair pads, to the lower left to the inner right hand side is the remains of a British post home capture label, most of the ink inscription is now illegible but some of the wording includes pick up by Lt…… 105, Oct 10 17, the date of the pickup label would indicate its likely capture at the battle of Passchendale notorious for the shocking level of casualties and appalling muddy conditions, a true trench rescue.
