Walter Reder, a member of the SS Totenkopf Division, Austrian citizen, extradited to Italy in 1948 to stand trial for war crimes, sentenced to life imprisonment and was paroled in 1985. GERMAN WWI SOLDIERS BACK PACK/TORNISTER.

Mid war type in olive drab canvas and brown leather. Karlsruhe maker’s stamp on the top leather rear section and repeated on one shoulder strap, the opposite strap appears to be a replacement. Regimentally marked in red ‘J.R 88’ which is the 2nd Nassau Infantry Regiment No.88. Original soldier’s name ‘Deckelburg’ applied in backing on the reverse canvas.
