GERMAN WWII KRIEGSMARINE NAVAL WHITE TOP DECK CAP, FRIEDRICH ECKOLDT.
A superb condition, possibly size 55 white top enlisted mans deck cap. The white top is completely mint with its nice quality gilded eagle, swastika and cockade all in one piece. The cap tally of the destroyer Friedrich Eckoldt. The tally is complete with its tails. To the interior the light tan leather sweatband showing hardly any wear use with beautiful private purchase interior light cream lining with the maker’s logo of ‘August Geiger of Kiel’ below the celluloid. The destroyer Friedrich Eckoldt built in the 1930’s in an action off the north cape of Norway after sinking a British minesweeper, Eckoldt mistook the British light cruiser HMS Sheffield for the German heavy cruiser Admiral Hippe and was taken completely by surprise when the cruiser opened fire. The ship sank with all hands without returning fire.
