ENGLISH 17TH LANCERS OFFICERS LANCE CAP.
A most superb condition King Edward VII. 1902 to 10 officers Lance cap Of the 17th Lancers, an unusually large size helmet, the black section of the rabbit skin body without any crazing or markings to the skin, the white wool mortar board top and ribbed sides without any moth damage, all of the gold lace for the helmet mint, excellent gilt on all of the metallic fittings, with a nice dark grey patina to the scrollwork of the front plate, the plate itself having battle honours up to South Africa 1900-02, the multi-constructed gilt boss having its correct Royal monogram for the period, the leather and velvet backed chain undamaged. To the interior the mid tan leather sweatband showing minor wear use, and having both sections of his interior purple inner lining present, to the upper inside of the mortar top the gilded maker’s name of Hawkes and company, the helmet is complete with its white Swan feather plume and its gilt officers style plume holder.
