BRITISH WWI 12TH LANCERS OFFICERS TUNIC AND GREATCOAT.

A very nice condition pair of uniform items belonging to Captain then Major JR Badger 12th Lancers. Tunic of the 1916 pattern, four button closure, two upper pockets with flaps and pleats, two lower pockets with large flaps. All of the buttons of the 12th Lancers regimental pattern, Bronze crowns to each epaulette, staff red collar tabs ,one staff button missing but it is enclosed to the upper right hand pocket. Boer war ribbon to upper right breast, One gold wound stripe to the lower right-hand sleeve both lower cuffs having twin 12th Lancers buttons. Maker’s label of JD Dege and sons London W, with hand applied name of the wearer JR badger with date 5/1/17 . The tunic of large proportions without any moth damage or moth tracking. a magnificent example of a World War I cavalry officers combat tunic. Accompanied by his 1913 dated greatcoat, with rank of captain yellow piping to the epaulettes and to the collar, all buttons of the 12th Lancers regimental pattern, it would appear the greatcoat has never been worn, the decorative 12th Lancers front buttons still have their manufacturers paper wrapped around them, also the rear skirt buttons are still wrapped, maker’s label reading Hamburger and Rogers Ltd London with hand applied captain JR Badger 13/2 1913. Some minor moth stitched repairs. The 12th Lancers are famed for the long battle history and their charge at Moy in the retreat from Mons in August 1914.
