GERMAN WWII DEFENCE OF BERLIN LUFTWAFFE FLAK GROUP.
A scarce group to a member of Heavy Flak Abteilung 549 who defended the Zoo Flak Tower in central Berlin. Iron Cross 2nd class to NCO Paul Ruppel, ink signature of General Major commanding the 20th Flak Division, folded twice, dated ‘October 1944’. Flak Battle Badge to the same NCO, with Flak Abteilung 549 issued 10th April 1945, signed in ink by General Major Herbert, unit rubber stamp with small photograph in uniform, good condition, folded twice. The Zoo Flak Tower was mounted with four twin 12.8mm anti aircraft guns, each barrel being able to fire 10 to 12 shells per minute. During the fighting the Flak Tower big guns could be depressed to destroy from miles away approaching Soviet tanks.
