PRE WWI ARGYLL & SUTHERLAND HIGHLANDERS OFFICERS BONNET.
A lovely condition Ostrich feather officers bonnet that once belonged to John C.Heys Thompson who was a Lieutenant 4th Battalion Royal Dublin Fusiliers 1900. Medals include the South African War 1901, Queen South Africa Medal 2 class, consequently 7th Dragoon Guards 2nd Lieutenant, July 1903 4th Extra Reserve Battalion Argyll & Sutherland Highlanders serving with the 2nd Battalion, Captain 2nd October 1914, further Special Reserve of Officers 4th Battalion Argyll & Sutherland Highlanders promoted to Captain. The Scottish officers bonnets and the enlisted ranks bonnets are extremely susceptible to loss of feathers, this example is absolutely perfect. For its whole life it has been in its own named container, faintly applied to the lid ‘J.C.Heys Thompson Argyll & Sutherland Highlanders’ with its own internal bonnet stand. The headgear is complete with its officers light cream bordering on white wide Morocco leather liner with its purple silk secondary liner, its officers cut out quality Argyll & Sutherland Highlanders badge, its white feather hackle and its original chinstrap. The silk lace that hangs down at the back is all complete. It would hard to obtain a better bonnet than this.
