BRITISH WWI VERY FIRST PATTERN BRODIE HELMET IN GREEN WITH BATTLE DAMAGE AND FIELD COVER.
An incredible relic from WWI being the very 1st pattern rimless Brodie helmet with all its green paint finish remaining with its original sacking cover and evidence of battle damage. The helmet has been penetrated in two places with an entry and exit round hole, which in the process has blown off the long part of the chinstrap, the shorter part of the chinstrap on the opposite side away from the velocity of the round is still all intact. The helmet has its original tongued oilskin liner with some degree of rotting to the tip of one tongue and to two outer edges of the liner itself. The sacking cover has split in one area and has been collector stitched together to avoid further damage. A fabulous example of a battlefield pick up Brodie helmet, recently acquired in Germany. We have found over the years that unlike Brodie helmets of WWII the German soldiers were not interested in saving them as souvenirs but a large amount of WWI Brodies have been found by us and other active participants in militaria in Germany over the years.
