GERMAN WWII CRUISER EMDEN PHOTOGRAPH ALBUM.

A ship dedicated album, the album itself could be purchased blank from the ship’s canteen. Blue cover, the spine is slightly damaged, with the gold embossed emblem of the ship to the cover with ‘Kreuzer Emden’ below. On opening the album there is a picture of the compiler of the album, which he has entitled in German ‘MY SERVICE ON THE CRUISER EMDEN 1941-42 ‘ with a picture of the sailor, studio shot. A large image of the original WWI cruiser Emden, which was sunk in the South Atlantic. A visit to the ship by Admiral Lutgens with the sailors lined up for presentation. Images of ports that they sailed into. Excellent image of Lutgens being piped aboard by a senior nco. Canteen photographs of the scuttling of the Admiral Graf Spee. Images on the cruiser while at sea on manoeuvres. Large format photograph of the guns being fired. Very good images of Kriegsmarine personnel marching showing officers in breeches, images of Kriegsmarine officers in breeches are scarce. Then a series of saucy naval style postcards with women in various states of dress. Many images and scenes of Norwegian cities and towns. Cruiser Emden shots in the Skakerak. Sailors at rest in the sun on the ship’s deck. Images inside Oslo Fjord. Images of a German cemetery in Oslo. Images of the sailors enjoying the sunshine, swimming from the ship in Oslo. Some family shots. Canteen photographs of merchant ships being sunk. Finally a magnificent and very rare photograph of the Schellenbaum banner of the Cruiser Emden, a double sided banner with one side showing the large down swept winged eagle and swastika with beautifully embroidered decoration, the reverse side having the emblem of the ship. This item alone would fetch fortunes in found today. There are over 130 photographs in the album. Accompanied by a shortened cap tally of the Cruiser Emden, however please note we are not sure whether this cap tally is an original WWII period tally. We are offering this on the album alone.
