JAPANESE WWII TYPE 90 COMBAT STEEL HELMET WITH RARE LINER.

This example has the very hard to find all canvas liner system, all of these rare examples are date stamped ‘14’ under the front pad. This example although a little faint is no exception. This 14 date is from 1938. Two theories exist, one being this canvas was for winter fighting in China, however 14 dated ersatz type liners also exist in leather, so therefore this maybe a substitute material to meet the massive needs of 1938/9. This is a large helmet and twice marked in kanji on the liner and in both faint and stamped form upon the steel. The maker is the lesser seen ‘Daido’. Many hand painted kanji letters to the helmet in the rear skirt, possibly the owner’s name. This helmet being a rare variation and it is priced accordingly.
