GERMAN WWII 1ST PATTERN KHARKOV WAFFEN SS PARKA.
A very good condition example of the rare 1st pattern pullover the head fur lined winter anorak known as the Kharkov Parka. An excellent photograph of this garment being worn appears on page 69 of the very authorative 1972 work Waffen SS Uniforms and Clothing by Mollo Volume 6. This parka shows very little wear use. Excellent overall colour with all of its rabbit skin lining intact. It retains its original windproof cuffs and all correct buttons. Some light fading of colour to each forward shoulder area where possibly it has been exposed on a display mannequin. The hood is complete with its draw cord, all original armed forces issue pebbled buttons intact to all the pockets and to the upper front closure. It would appear to be constructed to fit a medium sized wearer. The special fur lined parka was introduced by the Waffen SS in late 1942 after two years of development and testing in occupied Norway. The 1st pattern of pullover form was issued to Waffen SS troops serving on the Eastern Front in the winter of 1942/43 and has been seen widely at the 3rd Battle of Kharkov in February and March 43, earning it the nickname The Kharkov Parka. The 2nd pattern introduced in 1944 is identical but with a fully opening front.
