US WWII A2 LEATHER FLYING JACKET WITH PAINTED INSIGNIA.
A very nice condition size 40 A2 leather flying jacket, manufactured by the Cable Raincoat Factory of Boston. Standard configuration, two front pockets with flaps secured by male/female pop studs, woollen bottom band and cuffs, collar secured with male/female pop studs, two faux epaulettes. The jacket has seen considerable combat wear but has no leather rot, stitching strong overall, the skin is slightly thin on the corner of both shoulders, lining good but the usual torn places around the upper inner rear collar area. The zip is manufactured by Kwik and is present and fully functional. Some tears to the cuffs and bottom band but are original to the jacket. The remainder of the lining is excellent. Painted to the front upper right hand breast are a set of bombardiers wings, a squadron patch below, which we have not been able to identify. To the left hand breast the outline of a Liberator bomber with a series of 35 bombs indicating 35 missions completed by this U.S. Army Air Force bombardier. We have been unable to identify the squadron patch. A rare jacket of WWII with the wearer completing 35 bombing missions over enemy territory, where a survival rate was very slim.
