GERMAN WWII SUBMARINE PHOTOGRAPH ALBUMS.

Two superb albums belonging to one submariner, a total of 501 photographs in both albums. The earliest album begins with images of a cruise possibly prior to his serving in the Submarine Service, in southern climates. Scenes of submariners at rest and sport, then scenes of a bullfight in Spain, this may be during the Civil War but no dates are annotated. The album then moves into Submarine Service, images of crewmen on deck wearing their grey deck leathers and Mae West lifejackets. The Commander addressing the crewmen. The images seem to be taken after a submarine cruise as most of the men are unshaven. Pictures on the flak gun on deck at sea, pictures of the conning tower anti aircraft gun, officers wearing white top caps. Various types of grey leather deck suits being worn. Shots back at their submarine base. Unusual shots of Kriegsmarine men wearing tropical visored field caps, location unknown. French chateau indicating it may be close to their base. Naval soccer scenes. A broad shot of a submarine with conning tower insignia visible, we have not been able to identify it. Excellent close-up shots of another conning tower insignia. Images of the famous Knights Cross Winner Lehmann-Willenbrock. Flowers being awarded to a submarine captain wearing his white top cap. Good close-ups of Naval Admiral congratulating one of the sailors on the deck of a U-Boat. Many other highly interesting submariner related images, both on deck on shore. Cartoon type postcards of flimsily dressed women. One very large format shot of the crew in their deck leathers on the deck of their submarine in port. A naval band actually assembled on the deck of a submarine playing. A small grouping of what appear to be post war images. The second album beginning with an image of the Battleship Scharnhorst. A beautiful long shot of a submarine, the submarine is the Type UA, which was built for Turkey but never delivered. More shots of Kriegsmarine personnel at rest. Dockside, large ships. Many images in this album annotated. U-Boat depot ships. Submarines on manoeuvres. Kriegsmarine barracks images, all annotated. Individual photographs of higher ranking officers. An image of a U-Boat officer, non annotated but appears to be Gunther Preen. Pictures of U-46 in dock. More close-up images on submarines. Submarines in the Kaiser Wilhelm Canal. One large image of the Battleship Graf Spee. Another image of the Graf Spee sinking. Internal shots, which were canteen purchased of the interior of the Linenshiff Robert Ley, part of the Strength Through Joy Organisation. Some of the last shots in the album are taken from the conning tower of the submarine while in heavy seas. Also images of other members of the conning tower crew at their stations. Two superb albums, worthy of much deeper research, and if possible extra viewing in person. More extensive, extra images can be seen on our new Premium website, type in regimentalsmilitaria.co.uk in to your web browser.
