GERMAN WWI JAGER ZU PFERDE ENLISTED RANKS HELMET.

Ex collection of Michael Baldwin, collectors will be aware of the name, Michael was the author of the excellent five volume works on First World War uniforms and equipment entitled Feldzug. Michael unfortunately passed away in 2017, all of his collection was auctioned and this example came from that sale. The helmet shown clearly and described and analysed over pages 144 and 147 of Feldzug 1917. The maker stamp of ‘Otto Nachtigann Berlin’ dated ‘1915’. The rarity of this helmet against other Jager Zu Pferde helmets, which are relatively easy to obtain is that this particular example has been camouflaged olive drab painted in its entirety. Complete with its original State and national cockades, its original leather chinstrap and subdued coloured strap clips and buckles. Only 7 ½ of the 9 tongues remain to the liner, the lower edge of the liner is all complete but very delicate. Stamped size ‘56’ to the lower rear point of the lobster tail. A superb example of the wartime Jager Zu Pferde helmet actually combat ready.
