GERMAN WWI BAVARIAN ENLISTED CHEVAULEGER HELMET.
Another fine example from the Michael Baldwin collection, this all leather field grey fitted Bavarian Chavauleger helmet having the large Bavarian front plate in field grey, its fluted spike, large cross base, matching front peak trim and rear skull trim. Some loss of skin to the shell in places, slight rust to the Bavarian and national cockades, with its original untouched chinstrap. The liner is complete, supple with its original leather drawstring. Beautifully marked to the inner rear peak ‘1.CHEV.R’ with a further ink blocked dated ‘1915’. A classic untouched Chevauleger helmet from WWI with its original auction label when the collection was auctioned in May 1918 and an original picture. This helmet is profusely photographed and described on pages 148 and 149 of Feldzug 15.
