GERMAN WWII KRIEGSMARINE OFFICERS DAGGER TO A GERMAN CROSS IN GOLD AND U-BOAT OFFICER.

Standard Eickhorn produced naval officers’ dagger having a superb blade, stamped ‘Eickhorn’ with the standard naval etching to both sides of the double fullered blade. Celluloid grip with minor abrasions but no cracks visible, with its original gold portapee knot in its original wrap and has some thinness to the wire weave in places. Good traces of gilt remaining to the upper pommel and cross guard with its grip wire intact and bright. Good traces of gilt remaining in the protected areas of the scabbard, which has various distortions and indentations to the lower part. Complete with a matching set of officers hangers, which like the portapee knot does have some fraying to the black fabric, with its original steadying chain. On the reverse side of the scabbard just below the throat is engraved the name ‘Renner’. Horst Renner , born January 1920, first joined the navy in May 1940 on a destroyer, by June 1941 he was serving on U28, followed in October 41 on U81 on 16th August 1943 he was serving at the Marine School of Murwik, in May 1944 he was a cadet officer on the cruiser Koln and from 1st February 1945 to 8th May 1945 he was a Company Chief of the 3rd Abteilung at the Marine School of Murwik. During the course of the Second World War he won the German Cross in Gold in September 1943, the Iron Cross 1st class and 2nd class.
