GERMAN WWI JAGER ZU PFERDE REGIMENT 1-7 ENLISTED RANKS HELMET.
The quite unique style of helmet worn by all of the 13 Jager Zu Pferde Regiments, Regiments 1 through to 7 had the same blue skull but wore white fittings to the spike, spike base, front plate and edges of the helmet, the chin scales, which are domed and clip-on are always in brass. This skull is in excellent condition with a very minor amount of rust bleed through the blueing. All the fittings are nice and clean, undamaged, all the leather backing to the chin straps complete. The helmet is still complete with its correct large size State and national cockades. Stamped sized ‘55’ to the rear inner edge trim, complete with its 9 tongued leather liner and what appears to be a replacement drawstring from a shoelace. Maker marked to the upper inner skull close to the hole for the spike base, the end of the maker’s name is half obscured by one of the washers holding the dome nut to the helmet, the first half of the name ‘A Wunder’ and the manufacturing town appears to be Neufchatel.
