GERMAN WWII MOUNTAIN TROOPERS POLICE BERGMUTZE CAP.
The only M.43 Bergmutzes’ worn by the Police were for the Police Mountain Units. This very nice non size stamped example but on test possibly size 55, constructed in standard police green with the lighter shade of green piping around the crown. One single vent hole to either side of the cap, fitted with the one-piece Bevo woven Police eagle with cockade above. Twin button front. To the side of the cap is a mountain edelweiss badge with black swastika to the centre. One moth nip to the left hand side of the cap as the cap is worn. To the forehead interior there is a leather sweatband, considerable wear use evident in the forehead area. The interior lining is of brushed cotton with the original owner’s name of ‘Hartmut Pfeiffer’ attached to the inner upper crown. To the crown of the cap in between the inner lining and the exterior green cloth there appears to be some form of waterproof sheeting as the cap crackles with the movement of the inner lining material. Adjacent to the inner identification label there is faint ink stampings, the second word is clear ‘POLIZE’ the upper wording is more difficult to read. A rare cap for the police units.
