GERMAN WWII LUFTWAFFE AIR SEA RESCUE SERVICE VISOR CAP.
A scarce cap from WWII being a very large size, possibly 62, white top cap from the Luftwaffe Sea Rescue Service. The white top has toned and is fixed directly to the main body of the hat. To the upper part of the mohair centre band is a row of black piping, fitted to the mohair centre band is the very attractive set of wings with anchors below the swastika all in gilt. Standard fibre peak. Standard style of chinstrap with square edge buckles. Black side buttons. To the interior the sweatband showing considerable wear use, all intact, with the initials of what appears to be two previous owners, one hand applied, one with punch holes. The complete interior lining is of the waterproof russet brown style of material. The central lozenge is missing but virtually all of the, what was once, gold blocked lettering for the retailer is intact. The Air Sea Rescue Service was known as the Seefliegerhorstflugsicherung. An excellent explanation and photograph of these caps being worn are shown on pages 336, 337 and 338 of Headgear of Hitler’s Germany by Jill Halcomb and Wilhelm P.E.R.Saris Volume 1.
