GERMAN WWII BATTLESHIP TIRPITZ ARTEFACTS.
10 letters from Midshipman Berthold Brandstatter, field post number N30162 Battleship Tirpitz. All letters to his parents, which have been expertly translated and have a wonderful insight into the life of a sailor on one of the major German ships of WWII. Accompanied by many photographs of both the Tirpitz itself and his colleagues. A printed onboard programme of events on possibly a training ship in October 1941. Approximately 50 photographs. Also accompanied by a section of the wooden Tirpitz decking that was recovered from the Tirpitz by a David Hodgson, who acquired a large salvage section along with their flag and possibly some other parts of the ship from Jens Kristiansen, a retired policeman from Alta in the 1990’s, some of the deck still on display at Thorpe Camp. Thorpe Camp Preservation Group formed in 1993 to preserve the huts that remained of the former RAF Woodhall Spa, Woodhall Spa was the base in which RAF 617 Squadron flew to deliver the tallboy bombs, which sank the battleship Tirpitz.
