GERMAN WWI M.16 CAMOUFLAGE TRENCH HELMET.

Marked to the unusual maker for WWI Quist 66. The helmet has an unusual pattern of camouflage and as we have stated previously in other descriptions M.16, M.17 and M.18 helmets have changed enormously in pricing and a lot of it depends on the unusual pattern of the camouflage finish. This style we have never come across before and has to be treated as a rarity in terms of camouflage pattern finishes. The shell has been over-painted by hand in a heavy dark green paint with unusual patterns of brown and white. Some losses and changes of colour through atmospheric conditions can be seen from our web images. The helmet is complete with its original three pad liner, one of the interior liner pads has had a non-contemporary repair. Original inner horsehair pads are fitted and a drawstring. The leather has been treated with leather treatment, therefore changing the colour slightly. The helmet strap is heavier duty than normal and appears to be modified from some form of WWI utility strap. The original apple green paint finish remains to the interior skirt. An unusual helmet.
