BRITISH WWII ROYAL NAVAL AIR SERVICE HAT GROUPING.

A very nice Royal Naval cap of WWII with the most beautiful bullion, metal and velvet naval cap badge, WWI style narrow chinstrap. No moth damage. Size approximately 56. To the interior the tan lining is in good condition with excellent colour, the upper inner crown in the typical First World War style of multi stitching with a Luton, Bedfordshire maker surmounted by a Kings Crown gilt blocked to the upper inner circlet of the lining. Accompanied by a photograph of the cap being worn by John Frankton a Fleet Air Arm Observer. The cap in the photograph is the cap offered here. Accompanied by his wife, then known as Miss Crow written on the back of the photograph, her Wrens cap with HMS cap tally, again no moth. On the inner lining of the Wrens cap all of the friends of Miss Crow at the time have signed their names to the interior leather lining. A photograph of her wearing this cap with a further very faded photograph of her as a now promoted Petty Officer within the Wrens, wearing the Wrens tricorn cap. Annotation on the reverse side “Miss Crow age 18 1944”. A nice family group. John Frankton was flying from an aircraft carrier in the Far East campaign against Japan.
