JAPANESE WWII TYPE 90 ARMY HELMET.
An excellent example of the Type 90 combat helmet worn by Japanese troops during the whole of WWII. The exterior retains all original finish with its army star. Around the lower edge of the helmet can be seen the faint traces of a hand painted line of paint in a very similar but slightly different colour to the rest of the paint finish, this indicated that the helmet which arrived from the factory as a shell only and then was fitted with its separately supplied liner was actually put together in a army facility, the line painted showed that the helmet was now complete and ready for issue. The Japanese Navy had their helmets supplied complete and ready for service, therefore such a overpainted line should not be found on Navy helmets. To the inner rear skirt is the size of the helmet in a single Kanji letter. The liner system is all complete and in good condition, all in a mixture of tan colours. The liners are made from scraps of leather in a triangular fashion from the factory floor and all different colours. We have been informed that this type of construction of the liner only took place in 1941, behind the front liner pad there is a ink block stamping with Japanese characters. The helmet has its original drawstring. The internal liner comprises of three individual pads, two of the pads have their inner cushion still fitted, one has it missing. The neck tie tapes are full length but has been stitched strengthened in places. A excellent example of the Japanese combat helmet of WWII.
