A generally nice condition six panel white over Cork officers colonial helmet from the late 1870s, the cork body undamaged, slight age staining to parts of the cloth covering, to the interior the gilt blocked maker’s label on green leather to the upper crown area complete, marked “Best London Manufacture”, the remainder of the liner is identical to the British home service pattern helmet used from 1878 to 19111 having a light tan leather band with a red silk section attached, two clips for a chin chain, a large name hand applied to the interior of the bowl which appears to read, RF Cotterell ??, the same name is written to the green inner lining material on the rear tail of the helmet, a regimental plate was originally attached to this helmet and has been removed, leaving three blocked holes.
