GERMAN WWI PRUSSIAN ENLISTED MANS FIELD GREY PICKELHAUBE.
This example is so mint it is possibly from the thousands that were sold by the U.S. Government at the end of WWII on War Bond drives. Small size stamped ‘52’. The leather exterior skull absolutely superb with all the stitching to the front and back peaks secure and strong. The front field grey peak trim has not been kinked. All of the fittings, which includes the removable spike, circular spike base, back strap, Prussian front plate, front peak trim and strap fittings all in excellent condition. There is a slight shade difference between the field grey of the spike than the rest of the fittings. The main fittings are all in matt field grey, the spike is in a field grey green. The national and Prussian cockades are complete and are so mint they could be thought to be modern copies but are in fact absolutely original. To the interior the skull and liner retaining all its original light tan colour. The helmet is either unit or possibly army corps marked to the rear peak but difficult to ascertain the letter and numbers. The 8 tongue liner all complete with its original drawstring. A ‘Berlin 1915’ dated rectangular makers stamp in ink and an unknown number ‘5’ ink stamped to the interior of the helmet, which could possibly be for the 5th Army Corps.
