FRENCH WWI LEBEL RIFLE PERISCOPE.

A highly unusual and scarce accessory for the French Lebel rifle of WWI. Normally periscopes fitted to rifles project upwards for the firer to be able to see over the top of the trench, this particular example fits on the stock of the rifle with a clamp and projects horizontally to the right enabling the firer to view the target through the periscope whilst he is protected, finished in a dark version French horizon blue with its original belt carrying sprung loaded clip, the spring section is rusted. The rest of the periscope is in excellent condition, all the paint remaining to the main body with both periscope lenses intact, one has a slight chip to the glass.
