GERMAN WWI BAVARIAN AVIATORS M.15 SERVICE TUNIC

A very large size M.15 bluse, generally excellent condition, worn by a member of a Bavarian aviation unit. The tunic is standard configuration for an M.15, deep barrel cuffs, two lower angled pockets with flaps, matching collar to the tunic., close button front with the M.15 rear skirt. There is no moth damage anywhere on the tunic, some thinness to the nap of the cloth in places. One what appears to be a slash to the material just behind the upper left hand shoulder board as the tunic is viewed, the slash starts on the edge of the shoulder, runs slightly across one of the shoulder boards, then a further slash on the material of the tunic 4cm in length and then a further slash to the back of the collar 3 ½ cm in length, where and how this has happened over the years we have no idea. The tunic is fitted with all correct Bavarian buttons with the belt ramps on the reverse side having the Bavarian crown in brown paint finish, which matches the belt support ramps to each side of the waist of the tunic. The slightly more lighter grey in colour shoulder boards are stitched in. Loops are still applied to the tunic below the shoulder boards for slip-on shoulder boards. Standard Flieger shoulder boards overlaid in red wing propellers. To the collar are a set of machine woven collar patches with a short section of Bavarian lace to the forward edge of both sides of the collar. Two loops are sewn to the lower right breast as the tunic is worn for one award, the tunic is fully lined in field grey brushed cotton having a full compliment of size stampings with further issue markings below the size stampings with a faint date of ‘1918’ still visible.
