POST WWI IRISH ARMY GERMAN STYLE M 27 COMBAT HELMET.
The history of these helmets is highly interesting, after independence in 1922 and the formation of the Irish army with feeling still running high about the British occupation any thought of using a British style helmet was out of the question, consequently Vickers Ltd of the UK using captured German dies, stamps and presses constructed just over 10,000 helmet shells, the inner liners also based on the German M-16 series of helmet were locally made. This helmet is marked H 2819 indicating one of the early production helmets, also having its full complement of Vickers Ltd markings. Good original paint finish remaining, it’s liner in superb condition also marked T Smith Dublin, with its original drawstring and its original chinstrap. Also with its front badge.
