GERMAN WWI ZIGZAG PATTERN M.16 CAMOUFLAGE HELMET.
As we have stated before, the M.16 and M.17 and M.18 helmets of WWI with camouflage patterns have become an artform depending on the pattern of the camouflage. This example unusually having no visible maker or size stampings, in the three pattern camouflage of brown, tan and green in a very distinctive zigzag pattern of black separation lines. Virtually all the camouflage paint is still remaining, some slight losses to the black separation lines in the odd place otherwise very proud and distinctive pattern. To the interior the M.16 full leather liner band is present. Two of the inner liner pads have their original horsehair inner pads and both tongues are present, the third pad also has its inner stuffed pad but with both tongues to the leather section missing. Both metallic clips of the leather chinstrap are present, also the drawstring is present but the chinstrap is missing. Faint traces of an owner’s name and regiment number visible to the inner rear skirt. The number ‘4K’ (4th Kompanie) visible.
