GERMAN WWI IMPRESSIVE GERMAN AVIATION CARVED WOOD STAND.
A fabulous piece of WWI professional trench art, constructed from two separate propeller bosses, standing 57cm in height, the base is a cut half of a propeller boss with a full size propeller boss sat upon the base with an added moving propeller with a French clock situated to the centre of the propeller boss. Mounted to the top on a hand beaten brass base with a propeller tip, which has been cut open as a picture frame with an open box behind the propeller tip. The moving miniature propeller with two German war flags either decalled or hand painted upon the tips. To the tip of the upper propeller is again the German war flag with Iron Cross below and to the centre in the aperture for a photograph is a picture of the Kaiser. On the reverse side of the propeller boss is a photograph of two German aviators in conversation standing next to their aeroplane. The half boss base as the marking ‘Imperial Propeller No. 1094’ stamped into the wood. There are no markings visible on the full thickness propeller boss that houses the clock. The lower base is standing on four brass stands. The clock itself appears to function although we have no key. The rear section of the full boss is hinged to allow the removal or addition of another photographs. Probably constructed whilst within France in a German Aviation Officers Mess. We have seen items previously of a similar nature.
