AUSTRO-HUNGARIAN WWI M18 HELMET.
This scarce configuration of the helmet basically in the M-16 form, however with the liner system which some refer to as Hungarian, this involved a simplified installation of the liner with only one hole to the rear and two tiny rivets to the sides of the helmet, these held the chinstrap and the liner band in place. The exterior retaining the majority of its original Austrian brown paint with some slight losses as can be seen by our web images, the steel liner band has the three leather pads attached, the interior cushions are missing, the front liner pad very lightly attached to the steel liner band, an unusual feature we have never come across before is that each of the three leather pads are ink stamped with the Berndorfer Bear marking to one tongue of each pad, the helmet is complete with its chinstrap the buckle however has become separated from the strap by reason of rust in the leather that holds the buckle to the strap the buckle is present and is tied to the helmet by string, attached to the helmet is a very nice fully descriptive typed label created by the previous owner of this helmet.
