A nice clean condition 32cm circumference tray. ‘830’ German silver hallmarked, also maker marked ‘Gerhardt Hillman of Breslau’. Finely engraved to the centre ‘Ehrem Kameraden SS Standartenfuhrer Scherner, Breslau Den 15.Im Hornung 1936’. Accompanying the presentation script are 16 accompanying individual signatures, we have not been able to identify any of them, with deep research this maybe possibly, they must be other SS officers. Standardenfuhrer Julien Scherner born September 1895, died April 28th 1945 NSDAP official and a high ranking member of the SS, he served as SS and Police Leader of Krackow in German occupied Poland as well as many other officers. A WWI soldier attaining officer rank in 1914 and subsequently wounded in WWI. Captured at the end of WWI by French soldiers, awarded the Iron Cross 2nd class and Wound Badge in Black. In 1920 he joined the Freikorps Oberland, joined the SS in 28th December 1932 and became a full time SS officer in June 1934, he commanded the SS Training Camp at Dachau between October 37 and March 40, moved to various posts and in 1939 was Regimental Commander of the SS Mountain Troop Regiment 11 Reinhardt Heidrich and was the Commander of the 8th Totenkopf Standarte and Garrison Commander of the SS in Prague. In August 1941 Scherner was appointed SS and Police Leader in German occupied Krackow. He was heavily involved in the murder and deportation of Jews and others and commanded Police Battalions during the destruction of the Krackow Getto. After the liquidation of the Krackow Getto the remaining inhibitors were deported to Auschwitz.
