GERMAN WWII WAFFEN SS BRITISH VOLUNTEERS SLEEVE PATCH.
Recently in the United States at auction possibly the best Waffen SS based collection in the world has been sold in three separate auctions, viewers of our site may have already noticed other items from this collection that we had acquired. The collection was the property of David Delich. Regimentals were fortunate enough to be able to purchase the exceedingly rare “ England” volunteer sleeve shield of the British Free Corps, when we visited David Delich at his home in the late 1970s or early 80s we were staggered by the amount of SS material he owned at that time and of course it grew many times over in the years that followed, one-piece stood out for us British visitors was the printed England sleeve shield, we tried to purchase this at the time but it was not for sale. As far as we are aware it is the only known example, it is printed on the identical lightweight linen that many of the other volunteer sleeve shields are printed on. The only other photograph using a Union Jack sleeve shield is the photo of Kenneth Berry and Alfred Minchin supposedly standing talking to other SS members in 1944, there are many comments that this photograph is indeed fake and was produced in the 1950,s, the sleeve shield in the image is heavily woven, and has never been seen before, we remember David Delich telling us he acquired this printed sleeve shield in Germany in the early 1960,s, he travelled very extensively in and around Europe to acquire items for his collection. An ultra rare piece of WWII history.
