BRITISH WWI FIELD SERVICE SLOUCH HAT MODEL 1901/02.

A very scarce piece of headress being the field service slouch hat Model 1901, this is the very last Slouch hat from the South African war. Introduced in 1901 as the war was coming to an end the slouch hats were worn as home service headress but were very quickly replaced by the unpopular Broderick cap, they were reissued later in World War I for Macedonia and Salonika also Palestine, with the hat we have photocopies of the identical hat being worn in Macedonia by a Scottish soldier the pepper pot holes can clearly be seen, also the broader brim was much larger than Australian slouch hats,, faint remains of the chinstrap can be found underneath the inner sweatband liner, WD marked and dated 1901 to inside of felt, very minor moth tracking to brim of hat.
