BRITISH WWI OFFICERS DAYFIELD BODY ARMOUR.

The Dayfield body armour was the most popular body armour that was private purchased by British officers before setting off for the Western front. The armour comprised of four pieces of sheet steel, 2 each laid side-by-side as a front and back protection plate and then covered with khaki canvas. 2 over the shoulder canvas straps for holding the armour in place, with two waist straps for tying at the back. This particular example having very good clear Dayfield markings, with hand applied numbers and name of the wearer, unfortunately not clear enough for us to decipher. Quite often these armours have rusted from the inside tearing the canvas apart, this example has a few minor rust stains as can be viewed on our web images and only in two places have the cross steel bands poked their way through the canvas, a rare private purchase accessory, and superb item for the trench officer mannequin.
