BRITISH WWI 1ST PATTERN RAF CAP BADGE.
The RAF formed in April 1918 from the previous Royal Flying Corps, the first cap badge they adopted was the crown over eagle and wreath made by Gaunt of London. This is an original example with its Gaunt metal applied plaque on the rear, with the label ‘Sterling Silver Gold Plated Cap Badge, approved by Air Ministry Order April 17th 18 for officers of the Royal Air Force.’ All of the frosted gilt remaining to the exterior.
