GERMAN WWII UNUSUAL RLB GLADIATOR HELMET.

The Luftschutz/RLB gladiator helmets are generally easy to obtain on the collectors market, this is a highly unusual example. Two piece construction as the standard gladiator but far more shallow in form, the distance between the base and the top of the skull is much shallower than normal. It has the standard twin pepper pot air holes to either side of the skull, painted in the RLB blue with its white leather tongued liner to the interior and its late war plastic chinstrap. Adhered to the interior rear skull is a very attractive silver printed circular label, which reads ‘LUFTSCHUTZBUND’ with the RLB insignia to the centre ‘MITGLIED’. The helmet is stamped ‘RL2-38/28’, in our long years of involvement with this type of item we have never had one of these more shallow gladiator helmets.
