GERMAN WWII ARMY PIONEER SENIOR NCO VISOR CAP.

An early Reichwehr period saddle shaped visor cap, stamped size ‘57’ to the interior, constructed from officer quality material. Black piping to the crown and upper and lower sections of the Reichwehr period lighter apple green centre band. The cap, although fitted with an enlisted mans or nco chinstrap has a set of national eagle and swastika in officers bullion wire, which has oxidised. Standard visor. To the interior evidence of much wear use. The leather sweatband all intact, soft and supple, on turning back the sweatband to the interior it is profusely stamped with the maker ‘Carl Halfar, Berlin’ followed by various stampings, all relating to Pioneer Battalion 2, which of course matches the pioneer/engineers black waffenfarbe to the crown. The remainder of the lining in the brushed russet brown coloured cotton. Only remains of the centre celluloid lozenge are intact. The stiffener that holds the very point of the cap up has broken away from its fixing point on the inner band of the cap, therefore to achieve a good imagery of the cap a portion of bubble wrap or another form of material needs to be placed in the forehead area to give the cap its best look.
