GERMAN WWI M.18 HELMET.
The punch for the maker’s stamp is faint but the numbers for the shell size clearly ‘64’. The exterior shell has at least 50% of rust bleed with the remaining dark apple green finish all remaining. To the interior the steel M.18 liner band all intact. The three liner pads all of differing colours, one in a mid tan, another one also in mid tan but appears to have been affected by some form of burning, the third is in the M.17/18 cream leather, on close inspection all these three pads have been in place since the helmet was produced and are not replacements. The long section of the M.18 carbine type strap is all complete, the short section has split in half with one section still clipped to the long section and the remainder attached to the liner buckle. Faint remains of a manufacturer company stampings on the leather strap.
