A highly interesting single only British War Medal for the First World War awarded to Albert Zeligman. The British War Medal to naturalised Russian Jewish immigrant Albert Zeligman who served with Reserve Regiment of Cavalry, The Royal Bucks Hussars and the Machine Gun Corps in India. The single entitlement for the British War Medal only is named in the correct style 100324 Private A. Zeligman MGC?. Zeligman arrived in the UK from Russia at the age of 5, with his family including four siblings, the family settled in Oxford Street, London. The 1911 shows him as a Jeweller and that he was naturalised in 1899. He enlisted in the Reserve Regiment of Cavalry, later transferred to The Royal Bucks Yeomanry and then The Machine Gun Corps Cavalry. During the First World War he served in India and was only entitled to the single British War Medal. His brother Harry Zeligman was dishonourary discharged from The Royal Bucks Hussars in 1916 as he was a convicted felon and a bad soldier. According to research accompanying this medal his sister Flora was killed by enemy action in WWII. The medal comes with a huge amount of copies of official documents. A highly interesting recipient. Zeligman eventually passed away in 1962. The medal is without its ribbon.
