An exceptionally clean blade by Eickhorn having all of its naval etching good and clear, red felt washer intact. The gilt to the cross guard and upper pommel is superb with a good celluloid grip and all grip wire intact. One slight crease to the right hand side of the grip. Fitted into its magnificent undamaged scabbard with all gilt remaining. Engraved to the upper back flat section of the blade ‘W.Kleist A.B.-Masch.’ Obermachinist Walter Kleist served on the U71 he must have been an officer candidate that entitled him to wear an officers dagger. U71 survived WWII, many details are available on this boat of its operations on U-Boat.Net.
