GERMAN WWII HELMET COVER.

A purely field made and collector repaired genuine original helmet cover for the M.35, M40 or M.42 helmet of WWII. The cover has been made out of 8 sections of side panels with one domed panel from double sided zeltbahn material. The cover has suffered degrading to the lower edge where the cover has been fitted to a helmet since WWII and some small sewn collector repairs are evident. In addition there is a patch to the left hand side of the cover measuring 8cm at its highest point and 7cm at its lowest point. To the upper crown area there is the stitching that holds the top panel to the 8 side panels, which has degraded, glue has been added to hold the cover together. There are various other nicks and rodent gnaws to other parts of the cover. The cover is a nice snug fit on a size 56 liner size M.42 helmet. Ther ultimate test of any headdress of WWII in the soft form is to invert the item to stand on its crown, if the item does not collapse in on itself the item will be original and this is the case with this cover, as it stands on its crown it is a similar form to a bowl.
