BRITISH WWI WATER BOTTLE.

An intriguing item of a water bottle in the general shape of the 08 bottle but approximately 1/3rd shorter in depth. The bottle is in green enamel and is covered in a typical thick orange/beige wool cover identical to the other ranks bottles, which were covered during WWI. On carefully peeling back the base one can see a broad arrow with two letters, which appear to be ‘BE’ stamped below, this broad arrow stamp clearly indicates that these are an ordnance issued item and often items with this broad arrow and letter combination below are of Australian origin, it is believed these letters would have denoted the Military Department of issue. The top cap is also interesting, very similar to a bayonet clip on a light bulb, which has two pins and depresses and twists. The original cork to the interior is broken but still present and the top cap works perfectly. This could possibly be of Australian origin. Some losses to the felt covering as can be seen in our images.
