GERMAN WWII LUFTWAFFE FLIGHT SECTION CAP.
A rare maker of a Luftwaffe enlisted man/NCO's visor cap with yellow piping for flight units size 56 cm, The form of the cap is superb in the high saddle shape. The crown and upper body of the cap is totally free of any moth damage, moth tracking or staining, moth has attacked the waffenfarbe on all three sections of the cap, however the rarity of the maker of this cap in our opinion supersedes any moth damage. There were two makers of visor caps in the Third Reich period who used ventilation systems, the well known manufacturer Erel is the most commonly encountered with their vented cockade to the front of the cap, the second lesser known company were HTC with their trademark Frischluft, their patented fresh air system consisting of four ventilation holes in the forehead area of a visor cap behind the national cockade. In our opinion this cap has never been worn, however because the sweat band is of the substitute material similar to a stiff paper the sweat band has been torn in one place and is cracked in two others. The waffenfarbe surrounding the crown has only six minor moth nips, more moth has attacked the two lower sections of waffenfarbe, which we have tried our best to show on our web images. There is a slightly more unusual style of chin strap used on this cap. Double ribbed edge peak, which follows the fashion of many Luftwaffe caps. The interior is completely lined in a blue artificial silk. The central celluloid lozenge is all complete with the 'Frischluft' trademark and other wording completely clear. The sweat band has excellent light tan colour with minor storage staining. There is one complete tear in the forehead area and two cracks at each side of the area where the peak is fitted to the cap, this has unfortunately occurred through various handlers of the cap pulling the sweat band down to view the interior. Fortunately most of the moth damage is around the rear of the cap, visually from the front there is very little moth damage in evidence. The insignia all matching, one piece aluminium single stamped eagle with matching cockade. A rare visor cap.
