BRITISH VICTORIAN RORKE’S DRIFT WHITE COLONIAL HELMET.

A very good condition all white cork helmet, four panel canvas with white pagree, screw in air vent, complete with its brass chin chain with leather backing , this is the classic enlisted ranks helmet issued to all soldiers in the colonial period of 1870 onwards, the leather lining complete but with the loss to the glaze to the skin of the leather, faint traces of ink issue stamping to the interior, no damage or extra holes. The form and shape of the helmet is identical to the new Blue Cloth helmet known as the home service helmet for enlisted men introduced in 1878 . As shown on page 243 of the excellent work on colonial helmets the" Pith Helmet Jaunty Hat” by CP Mills.
