GERMAN WWI GEW 98 POUCHES AND STRAP.

A lovely set from the Michael Baldwin collection of a virtually identical pair of the GEW98 pouches, both date 17 both different makers but identical in construction and colour, they have definitely been worn as a pair. On opening one of the pouch lids there is an army corps mark of B.A.IV with further markings of 112 also 118 which may denote regimental numbers. Attached to the pouches are two bread bag straps, one of the straps being the rarer type that has an extra section added to the strap to allow another strap to pass through to enable load carrying by the wearer, thus forming an X frame. One of the sprung loaded clips at the end of one of the straps, which is attached to the D ring of the pouches in broken however the sprung loaded catch is present and could be re-attached.
