GERMAN WWII DIPLOMATIC OFFICIALS TUNIC.

A very rare uniform tunic of a German Foreign Office official. The tunic is a large size, virtually mint unworn condition in midnight blue, the collar is silver piped. Both shoulder boards are in wrapped silver braid over midnight blue underlay with a gilded Diplomatic style metallic eagle attached. All of the buttons to the tunic are in white metal and matching maker marked by ‘Assmann & Sohn’ on the reverse side. To the upper left breast as the tunic is worn is the national emblem with the eagle viewing to the right on midnight blue backing. Two lower angled pockets, to the base of the sleeves there are two rank strips. To the inside pocket the tunic’s original NSDAP RZM issue label. There is a large white ink stamp of ‘52’ in the inner rear panel lining. Loops to the right hand breast of the tunic as the tunic is viewed for two awards. The tunic does not have any moth damage or any moth tracking and would appear to have been wardrobe stored since WWII. Information on Diplomatic insignia and the ranking system is scant, with the use of the excellent early work Uniforms & Insignia of the German Foreign Office and Government Ministries by Jill Halcombe, we have been able to ascertain that the shoulder straps are worn by officials of Group 1 Pay Grade.
