GERMAN WWII DOUBLE DECAL SS HELMET.

A very rare barn find double decal Waffen SS combat helmet. The helmet shell marked Q 66 has only faint traces of its early apple green finish remaining, the greater proportion of the shell has rust bleed and in some areas has eaten into the metal. The national swastika decal is good clear and virtually complete, the SS runic decal has been attacked by the rust bleed but the outline of the SS runes especially the left hand runic symbol can still be seen. Unusually the paint has remained on the liner retaining rivet heads. Internally the helmet is fitted with a zinc banded liner with rounded edges to the strap posts, the leather to the liner has twisted and congealed in places and two tongues are missing ,the liner is with a reasonably clean condition strap with aluminium buckle , the strap is maker marked with an indistinct date with the letter 3 visible. In our opinion this helmet has been found without a liner and this relatively good fitting and matching condition liner has been collector retrofitted. We are offering an untouched shell of a double decal Waffen SS combat helmet.
