GERMAN WWII AFRIKA M40 OFFICERS PANZER FIELD CAP.

A good service used and semi bleached example of the ultra rare Afrika Korps officers M.40 visored field cap. Generally the condition is good, although an enormous amount of service wear has been seen to this cap. There are no losses, just staining. The officers wire cording to the crown of the cap is slightly shredded and oxidised in places, which also matches the same condition of the piping around the front of the cap. The Panzer pink soutache is correctly applied that matches the standard normally encountered with the manufacturer of Lago. To the interior it would appear that the cap at some time has been immersed in a form of oil as the red lining has changed to a maroon colour, luckily the ‘Lago Berlin 1940’ date, ’59 stamp size is still visible. These are the very first caps produced, at least a year prior to the arrival of the Afrika Korps in North Africa. Fitted between the Bevo national eagle and the inverted Panzer waffenfarbe is a single Panzer collar skull, on gently moving the skull forward the shade of the original material of the cap can be seen behind the skull. An ultra rare cap in the most magnificent service worn condition.
