IMPERIAL GERMAN HESSE 115TH BATTLE DAMAGED PICKELHAUBE.
An ultra rare pickelhaube of WWI being an enlisted mans helmet from the Hesse Lieb-Garde Infantry Regiment No. 115. The helmet with all of its correct white metal fittings including the 1621 scroll, its original chinstrap, its correct national and Hessian State cockades, matching front peak trim. The helmet has been battle damaged, to the very point of the 1621 scroll on the left hand side a shrapnel hole has pierced the leather skull slightly deforming the tails of the scroll in that point, there is other compression damage to the leather in terms of creasing. The rear peak, although solidified, is firmly attached to the main body but with some slight looseness to the right hand side of the helmet as the helmet is viewed from the rear, as is the front peak. A non contemporary repair is affected to the fixing lug on the upper left hand tail of the 1621 scroll to the interior only. The 9 tongued liner is all complete, dry and cracked in places. Very traces of the regimental marking ‘115’ can be seen in the inner rear peak.
